Before that, did you know you don't have to build one big website to make money online. In fact it's not a good idea to 'put all your eggs in 1 basket'.
Instead you can build multiple small 'sniper' sites and get them ranked in Google using a formula revealed by a highly successful entrepreneur who makes a (very) large income this way. Check it out here
1. Make money off your website by selling a service or product
Making money from your website selling services or products is perhaps the most obvious way to earn from your site. Let's say your website is about fitness. You could sell fitness equipment or books about fitness. Or maybe you are a personal trainer or you run fitness classes, so you can sell the service you provide.
Promoting your service or product through a website can be fantastic for business and far cheaper than advertising in the long term. Not so simple as advertising though!
Once your site is ranking well in the search engines and getting 'free traffic' it also works out much more cost-effective for you than selling your products on a site like, say, eBay.
Make sure that your site is easy to navigate, has useful engaging content for your visitors and that it is easy for them to buy your service or product without doing a hard-sell. It's amazing how many websites hide the very infotmation that will make them money!
2. Make money off your website from adverts on your site
Let's look at how you can make money off your website from adverts. One of the most simple, fast and popular ways to get paying adverts on your website is by using Google Adsense. It can literally take minutes to get the ads onto your site.
You just need a free Google account, then log into Google Adsense and go through a simple step-by-step process to get some html code to add to your website. I have added a step by step video about exactly how to do it at the bottom of this page.
You get paid varying amounts each time someone clicks on the ads on your website.
Here are a few tips: Don't put too many ad blocks on your page else your Google rankings will be adversley affected. Plus, it's annoying for your website visitors!
Don't have them too close to the top of a page, it's best to have at least a large paragraph first.

Other ad companies you could look into are: Chitika, Kontera (they make some of your words into hyperlinks rather than taking up space with ads), Infolinks.
You can also approach companies who are in your niche and offer them the chance to be a sponsor. So, they would pay you a yearly/monthly fee in return for having their advert on your site. Or, put an advert of your own on your site telling people they can advertise with you.
As your website becomes high ranking and getting good traffic, you may well find they will approach you first!
3. Earn from selling affiliate products
Now, how about making money off your website as an affiliate? This is a really interesting option as you can create a good, passive income from your website with this as long as your website gets lots of traffic.
What are affiliate products?
They can be e-products or physical products (like books, DVD's) which you are allowed to recommend because the company that sells them has an affiliate program. Lots of companies have affiliate programs and they will often have a link at the top or bottom of ther site advertising their affiliate program.
The best example is a company like Amazon.
Once you have found a good affiliate company, you simply need to find relevant affiliate products for your website's content. The affiliate product could be actual physical products or information products.
You will then just need to add a coded link or widget or banner to your website which the affiliate company will provide, and that way any sales made via your website can be tracked back to you and they will give you a commission.
What I love about this is that you are not responsible for making any products or dealing with the payments and customers, or with sending products when a sale is made!
You just need to send enough traffic via your affiliate links that a good amount of sale are made.
